Reflexology
is the application of pressure to the feet with specific thumb, finger and
hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. This is based on
the principle that the feet contain a "map" of the body in a
system of zones and areas that relate to specific body parts.
Pressure applied to the reflex points helps to stimulate proper function
and balance in the corresponding body parts.
Foot
reflexology helps to improve circulation so that nutrients and oxygen can
flow unimpeded to the cells. Reflexology helps the body to relax --
the first step toward a state of equilibrium.
Throughout
history, various cultures have used the feet as a means of affecting the
health of the body. Examples can be found in ancient Egypt, Japan,
Tibet and India as well as China. More recently, research has
confirmed the direct relationship between pressure applied to the skin and
its effect on the internal organs.
